The Walt Disney World Dolphin sits on Crescent Lake, within walking distance of both EPCOT and Hollywood Studios. Like its sister property the Swan, Dolphin is a Marriott property fully integrated into Disney's transportation system.

This guide covers all transportation options from Dolphin and when each makes sense.

Your Transportation Options

Dolphin has three main transportation modes:

Mode Destinations Notes
Walking EPCOT, Hollywood Studios 10-22 min depending on park
Boat (Friendship) EPCOT, Hollywood Studios Scenic, ~15-25 min with wait
Bus All 4 parks + Disney Springs Bus service (via Mears)

No Skyliner or monorail access.

The Walking Advantage

Dolphin's EPCOT-area location makes walking to two parks practical.

To EPCOT

Walk time: 10-15 minutes

The path goes along Crescent Lake, through the BoardWalk area, and into EPCOT via International Gateway.

Why walk:

  • Faster than waiting for transportation
  • No schedule to follow
  • Pleasant waterfront scenery

Dolphin is slightly further than Swan, Beach Club, or Yacht Club, but the walk is still very manageable.

Note: You enter at International Gateway (World Showcase). For the front of EPCOT, walk through the park or take the bus to the main entrance.

To Hollywood Studios

Walk time: 18-22 minutes

The path follows Crescent Lake in the opposite direction to Hollywood Studios.

When to walk:

  • Weather is pleasant
  • You have energy
  • You want to avoid waiting

When to consider alternatives:

  • Midday heat
  • End of a long day
  • Boat is at the dock ready to go

Getting to Each Park

To EPCOT

Best option: Walk

Option Time Notes
Walk 10-15 min Fastest
Boat 15-20 min Scenic alternative
Bus 20-35 min Goes to main entrance

Walk unless you need the main entrance or weather is poor.

To Hollywood Studios

Best option: Walk or boat

Option Time Notes
Walk 18-22 min Reliable, longer walk
Boat 15-25 min About the same
Bus 20-35 min Direct but variable

Walk and boat are roughly equivalent. Take whichever is available.

To Magic Kingdom

Option: Bus only

Step Time

Wait for bus 5-20 min
Ride to TTC 15-20 min

Dolphin vs. Swan

Swan and Dolphin are connected Marriott properties sharing transportation.

Factor Dolphin Swan
Walk to EPCOT 10-15 min 10-12 min
Walk to Hollywood Studios 18-22 min 15-20 min
Size Larger (1,509 rooms) Smaller (758 rooms)
Boat dock Shared Shared
Bus stop Shared Shared

Swan is slightly closer to both parks. Dolphin is larger, so some rooms are further from the walking paths.

The transportation difference is small — maybe 2-3 minutes. Room location within each resort matters more than which resort you choose.

For Swan details, see Swan Transportation.

Room Location Matters

Dolphin is a large resort. Walk times vary based on your room:

Closer to paths: Rooms facing Crescent Lake or the Swan Further from paths: Rooms facing the parking areas or convention center

If walking to the parks is a priority, request a lake-view or Swan-side room.

What's Different About Swan/Dolphin

Dolphin is a Marriott property, not Disney-owned.

Transportation is the same: Full access to buses, boats, and walking paths.

What's different:

  • Bus service is operated by Mears Transportation, not Disney buses (same destinations, similar frequency)
  • Marriott/Bonvoy points eligible (Dolphin is a Sheraton)
  • Different booking system than Disney resorts
  • Early Entry benefit included (link your reservation in My Disney Experience before your trip)
  • Different cancellation policies
  • No Disney Dining Plan eligibility

For transportation purposes, Dolphin works identically to Disney's EPCOT-area resorts.

Rope Drop Strategies

For EPCOT

Leave time: 40-50 minutes before park opening

Walk. Factor in 10-15 minutes depending on your room location.

For Guardians: Walk through International Gateway and head to the front, or take the bus to the main entrance.

For Hollywood Studios

Leave time: 50-65 minutes before park opening

Walk (18-22 min) or catch an early boat.

For Magic Kingdom

Leave time: 75-90 minutes before park opening

Bus to TTC, then monorail or ferry.

For Animal Kingdom

Leave time: 60-75 minutes before park opening

Bus only.

Park Close Strategies

From EPCOT

Walk. 10-15 minutes while everyone else fights for buses.

From Hollywood Studios

Walk or boat. Both work.

From Magic Kingdom

Plan for TTC crowds. See Transportation at Park Close.

From Animal Kingdom

Stay 15-20 minutes after the nighttime show.

Tips for Dolphin Guests

Know Your Room Location

Dolphin is large. Rooms closer to the lake have shorter walks to the paths. Request accordingly.

Use the Walking Paths

Walking to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios is Dolphin's main transportation perk. Don't default to buses for these parks.

Link Your Reservation in My Disney Experience

Dolphin guests get Early Entry with valid admission and a park reservation. Link your hotel reservation in My Disney Experience before your trip to ensure everything is set up.

Convention Traffic

Dolphin hosts large conventions. During convention periods, buses and common areas may be busier than usual.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Dolphin or Swan better for transportation?

Swan is slightly closer to both parks. Dolphin is larger, which means more room options but also longer walks from some rooms. The difference is minor.

Is Dolphin considered a Disney resort?

No. It's a Marriott property (Sheraton) on Disney property. You get Disney transportation but not all Disney resort perks.

How does Dolphin compare to BoardWalk?

BoardWalk is closer to both parks and is Disney-owned. Dolphin often has lower prices and offers Marriott points. Transportation is similar but BoardWalk has a slight edge.

Can I walk to the Skyliner?

Not without entering EPCOT. The Skyliner station is inside the park at International Gateway.

The Bottom Line

Dolphin's EPCOT-area location provides walking access to two parks — a meaningful advantage over most Disney resorts.

If you want EPCOT/Hollywood Studios access with Marriott perks, Dolphin delivers. Just know that room location affects walk times more here than at smaller resorts.
