Getting to EPCOT: Every Transportation Option Explained
Getting to EPCOT
EPCOT has something no other Disney park offers: two completely separate entrances served by different transportation systems. The main entrance (near Spaceship Earth) and International Gateway (in World Showcase between France and the UK) are on opposite sides of the park.
Which entrance you arrive at matters. It determines which attractions you reach first, how crowded your arrival experience is, and sometimes whether you need to walk 10-15 minutes through the park to reach your actual destination.
The Two Entrances
Main Entrance (Front of Park)
Served by: Bus, monorail Near: Spaceship Earth, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Test Track, Journey of Water
This is EPCOT's primary entrance. Most guests arrive here.
International Gateway (Back of Park)
Served by: Skyliner, Friendship boats, walking paths Near: Remy's Ratatouille Adventure, Frozen Ever After, World Showcase pavilions
This entrance drops you into the middle of World Showcase. It's ideal for World Showcase dining reservations or attractions in that area.
If you're heading to the front of the park (Guardians, Test Track), arriving at International Gateway means a 10-15 minute walk through World Showcase. If that's your plan, the bus or monorail to the main entrance is more efficient.
By Skyliner
The Skyliner gondola system drops you at International Gateway — EPCOT's back entrance.
Who Can Use It
Guests at Pop Century, Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach, and Riviera resorts have direct Skyliner access. The ride goes through Caribbean Beach hub and Riviera station before reaching EPCOT.
Timing
- Pop Century / Art of Animation to EPCOT: 15-25 minutes total (including wait)
- Caribbean Beach to EPCOT: 10-20 minutes total
- Riviera to EPCOT: 5-10 minutes total
When the Skyliner Wins
Midday: Wait times are shortest between 10 AM and 5 PM. The Skyliner is typically faster and more predictable than the bus during these hours.
World Showcase destinations: If you have a dinner reservation at one of the country pavilions, International Gateway puts you right there.
You want the experience: The aerial views of Disney property are genuinely enjoyable, especially for first-time visitors.
When to Skip the Skyliner
You need the main entrance: If Guardians of the Galaxy or Test Track is your first stop, the bus gets you closer.
Weather is threatening: The Skyliner closes during lightning and high winds. Florida afternoon storms can pop up quickly.
Rope drop crowds: Morning Skyliner waits can hit 15-30 minutes. The bus might be faster if you're trying to be at the park right at opening.
By Monorail
The monorail EPCOT line runs from the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC) to EPCOT's main entrance.
How It Works
The EPCOT monorail is a separate line from the Magic Kingdom monorails. It runs directly between TTC and EPCOT — no resort stops.
Ride time: 10-12 minutes Typical wait: 5-15 minutes
Who Uses This
- Guests connecting from Magic Kingdom: Ride the Magic Kingdom monorail to TTC, walk to the EPCOT monorail platform, and ride to EPCOT. Total time: about 25-35 minutes.
- Guests who drove: If you parked at TTC for Magic Kingdom and want to visit EPCOT, the monorail connects the two.
- Monorail resort guests who want the front entrance: Take the Resort line to TTC, then the EPCOT line.
When to Take the Monorail
You're park-hopping from Magic Kingdom: The monorail connection via TTC is one of two options (the other being the bus). The monorail is more scenic; the bus is more direct.
You want the main entrance: The monorail drops you right at Spaceship Earth, which is better than International Gateway if your destinations are in Future World.
By Bus
Buses run from every Disney resort directly to EPCOT's main entrance.
What to Expect
- Direct service from your resort — no transfers
- Drops you at the main entrance near Spaceship Earth
- Runs from about 45-60 minutes before park opening until an hour after close
- Frequency: roughly every 20 minutes
When Buses Win
From resorts without Skyliner or monorail access: If you're at Animal Kingdom Lodge, Coronado Springs, Port Orleans, the All-Star resorts, or most other Disney properties, the bus is your primary option.
You need the main entrance: Unlike the Skyliner (International Gateway) or walking (International Gateway), the bus takes you to the front of the park.
Bad weather: Buses run through everything. If afternoon storms threaten your plans, the bus is the reliable choice.
You're at a Skyliner resort but need the front of the park: The bus goes to the main entrance while the Skyliner goes to the back. If your first destination is Guardians or Test Track, the bus might save you a 10-minute walk through World Showcase.
When to Consider Alternatives
If you're at a Skyliner resort heading to World Showcase, the Skyliner is typically faster and more predictable. If you're at BoardWalk, Beach Club, or Yacht Club, walking is almost always faster.
By Walking
Several resorts are within easy walking distance of EPCOT's International Gateway.
EPCOT-Area Resorts
| Resort | Walk Time | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Beach Club | 5-7 minutes | Closest resort to EPCOT |
| Yacht Club | 7-10 minutes | Right next to Beach Club |
| BoardWalk | 8-12 minutes | Pleasant walk along the water |
| Swan | 10-12 minutes | Through the BoardWalk area |
| Dolphin | 10-15 minutes | Slightly further |
When to walk: Almost always. By the time you'd wait for a bus, you could already be inside the park. The path is paved, scenic, and deposits you at International Gateway.
When to take the bus: If you need EPCOT's main entrance (front of park) and your destination is truly at the front. Otherwise, walk to International Gateway and cut through World Showcase.

Rope Drop Strategy
From Skyliner resorts: If you're heading to Remy's Ratatouille Adventure or Frozen Ever After, the Skyliner to International Gateway puts you close. But if you're targeting Guardians of the Galaxy (front of park), take the bus to the main entrance.
From EPCOT-area walking resorts: Walk to International Gateway. You'll arrive before the bus even leaves the stop.
From all other resorts: The bus to the main entrance is your most direct option. Arrive at the bus stop 45-60 minutes before park opening.
EPCOT rope drop is less intense than Magic Kingdom's. The park is large enough that crowds spread out quickly. Don't stress about being first in line — arriving within 15-20 minutes of opening is usually fine.
End of Night Strategy
EPCOT's evening departure is generally smoother than Magic Kingdom's because guests are spread across two exits.
Main entrance crowds: Most guests head to the main entrance bus stops. These get busy after fireworks.
International Gateway advantage: If you're at a Skyliner resort, EPCOT-area walking resort, or can take a Friendship boat, exit through International Gateway. It's typically less crowded than the main entrance.
Walking is ideal: EPCOT-area resort guests who walked in should walk out. The path is pleasant in the evening, and you skip all lines.
Tips
- Know which entrance you need before choosing transportation — it determines everything
- Skyliner to International Gateway is perfect for World Showcase, not ideal for Future World
- Walking beats the bus for BoardWalk-area guests almost every time
- The monorail is useful for park-hopping from Magic Kingdom, not for a primary arrival
- Bus is the reliable default when weather threatens or you need the main entrance
The Bottom Line
EPCOT's two entrances give you more options than any other Disney park — but they also require more thought. The transportation that gets you to EPCOT fastest isn't always the one that gets you to your destination fastest.
